Understand how O-ring backup rings support a sealing arrangement, and what dimensions, pressure and material details an enquiry needs.
Backup rings, also written back-up rings, are supporting elements used with an O-ring where the seal design calls for extrusion control. They are not a substitute for the primary seal.
Include the gland drawing, pressure direction, clearance and the number and position of supporting rings. Do not select their location from a generic illustration.
State the backup-ring profile, material, dimensions, split or solid construction and the O-ring it works with.
A purchase brief should describe the O-ring and its support together: compound, hardness, groove, pressure cycle, temperature and motion. Matching a nominal ID alone does not establish a compatible pair.
This is a component-selection guide. Confirm the required backup rings and supporting documentation before ordering through Rubrings.
